FDIS is for Vote and Proof Read - not for Comment!

Typical Background Details and Advice for Learning #019

Due to technical comments and proposals for technical changes being made at or after some recent FDIS ballots, both TC67/SC7 and (later) TC67/SC6 took Resolutions to reinforce the intended process at FDIS:

SC7 Resolution 195 (Copenhagen, 2003)

Further to comment on recent FDIS approval ballots, ISO/TC67/SC7 reminds all participants that documents are to be complete and checked for editorial accuracy before submission to ISO CS as "Ready for FDIS". Under ISO rules, comments are not permitted at FDIS (technical reasons for voting negative are required); any errors are to be notified direct to the SC7 Secretariat before the end of the voting period. If P-Member technical review is required of how the DIS comments were addressed, a second DIS Enquiry should be considered in order to permit further comments to be handled.

SC6 Resolution 353 (Madrid, 2003)

Further to comment on recent FDIS approval ballots, ISO/TC67/SC6 reminds all participants that documents are to be complete and checked for editorial accuracy before submission to ISO CS as "Ready for FDIS". Under ISO rules (see ISO/IEC Directives part 1, clause 2.7.2), comments are not permitted at FDIS (technical reasons for voting negative are required); any errors are to be notified direct to the SC6 Secretariat before the end of the voting period.
