Introduction paragraphs - standard TC67 text

1.  Where an ISO Standard is based on an API Standard, it is normal to acknowledge this by a first sentence in the Introduction of the ISO Standard.  The following examples are taken from published International Standards.  The third example is the most desirable.

The following example is taken from ISO 13625:2002, and is appropriate where technical divergence has been minimised but the intentions of the API committee with respect to maintenance of the original API Standard are unknown:

This International Standard is based upon API Specification 16R, first edition, January 1997

The following example is taken from ISO 10441:1999, and is appropriate in the rare event that the ISO Standard has been developed with content that the API committee is unable to endorse:

This International Standard has been derived from the American Petroleum Institute, standard 671 but contains significant differences from that standard.

The following example is taken from ISO 13709:2003, and is appropriate where one industry document has been developed jointly by API and ISO and the intention is either that the same text will be sent for publication by both organisations, or that API will adopt back the ISO when published:

This International Standard was developed from API Standard 610, 8th edition, 1995, with the intent that the 9th edition of API 610 will be the same as this International Standard.

2.  Recommended wording for "alternative designs".
