pre-FDIS 2-week review

With reference to TC67 N 435 (TC67 Policies and Procedures) clause 5.2.4.5, here is an example of the message text that accompanies the two-week "pre-FDIS" proof copy that is sent by ISO CS to the Project Leader:

We are pleased to send you, as an attachment to this message, an edited copy of ISO/FDIS nnnnn prepared with revision marks so that the editorial changes introduced by ISO Central Secretariat are visible. In accordance with an agreement with the OGP on 15 November 2001, you have two weeks from this date to inform us of any technical errors that were inadvertently introduced during the editing process, so that they can be corrected before the FDIS vote. Comments and questions which arose during the editing process are also enclosed as a separate file. These may explain some of the changes made. If any of the questions can be answered during the two-week period, the replies will be incorporated in the FDIS text.

Please note that:
1) only technical corrections to editorial changes (not to original text) shall be considered at this time, ISO/CS editors reserving the final > decision;
2) you will be allowed the usual two months to examine the final FDIS text during the FDIS vote;
3) this marked-up FDIS attachment will not be identical to the final FDIS sent out for vote, as further processing is always carried out on the document at ISO/CS after the main editorial stage. In addition, please note that changes made to equations are not indicated by revision marks.

ISO/CS has agreed to this disruption in its normal work flow in order to help TC 67 to provide the FDIS voter with as technically correct a document as possible, as quickly as possible. It is in this spirit of cooperation that we hope to hear from you regarding any technical errors by [two weeks from date of dispatch], after which time FDIS nnnnn will be processed as usual.

Due to misunderstanding of the above, both TC67/SC6 and TC67/SC7 have clarified the expectations as follows:

SC6 Resolution 353 (Madrid, 2003)
Further to comment on recent FDIS approval ballots, ISO/TC67/SC6 reminds all participants that documents are to be complete and checked for editorial accuracy before submission to ISO CS as "Ready for FDIS". Under ISO rules (see ISO/IEC Directives part 1, clause 2.7.2), comments are not permitted at FDIS (technical reasons for voting negative are required); any errors are to be notified direct to the SC6 Secretariat before the end of the voting period.

SC7 Resolution 195 (Copenhagen, 2003)
Further to comment on recent FDIS approval ballots, ISO/TC67/SC7 reminds all participants that documents are to be complete and checked for editorial accuracy before submission to ISO CS as "Ready for FDIS". Under ISO rules, comments are not permitted at FDIS (technical reasons for voting negative are required); any errors are to be notified direct to the SC7 Secretariat before the end of the voting period. If P-Member technical review is required of how the DIS comments were addressed, a second DIS Enquiry should be considered in order to permit further comments to be handled.
